Toshiomi Kazama Octagon Interview | UFC Fight Night: Tybura vs Spivac 2
/
This was a strong overall effort for the Road to UFC finalist, who played to his advantages on the ground and showed his grit by weathering the big attack of Grigoriou at the start of the second. After landing on the wrong side of the finish in each of his first two trips into the Octagon, Kazama finally got his hand raised on Saturday, posting the 10th win of his career in the process.
Yana Santos defeats Chelsea Chandler by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
Veteran Yana Santos collected a much-needed decisive victory on Saturday, angrily taking the fight to Chelsea Chandler throughout their three-round catchweight engagement.
Santos was the sharper, quicker, and more active of the two from the jump, showing more aggressiveness than she had in recent outings, likely in part due to Chandler missing weight by a considerable margin on Friday. While Chandler was able to have a little more success in the third as Santos began to fade, the Russian veteran was able to minimize the impact and answer in kind, ensuring she left the Octagon with her arms raised in victory.

When the scorecards were added up, it was indeed Santos that emerged victorious, earning her first victory since early 2021. This was the best she’s looked in some time, and keeps her in the mix in the Top 15 of the women’s bantamweight ranks.
Chris Gutierrez defeats Quang Le by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
Bantamweight mainstay Chris Gutierrez successfully navigated a tricky short-notice matchup with Quang Le midway through the main card, collecting a unanimous decision win fuelled by his signature low kicks.
“El Guapo” opened up attacking the lead leg of the Chinese newcomer, who tagged in for Javid Basharat after initially being slated to compete on the upcoming season of Dana White’s Contender Series. While Le kept it close and competitive, the constant kicks from Gutierrez were the difference-maker in the final frame, as the Factory X man was able to pull away down the stretch.

The victory got Gutierrez back into the win column after losing a decision to Song Yadong to close out his 2023 in December, while also serving as a strong introductory effort for Le.
Danny Barlow defeats Nikolay Veretennikov by split decision (29-28, 27-30, 29-28)
DWCS grad Danny Barlow and Season 5 alum Nikolay Veretennikov engaged in a competitive three-round scrap midway through Saturday’s six-fight main card.
This was a close affair from the outset, with neither man throwing high volume, opting instead to pick their shots and look to land with something sharp. Barlow came out of the gates a little quicker, but as the fight progressed, Veretennikov closed the gap, making this anyone’s contest when the final horn sounded.

For the third straight contest, the judges were called upon to render a verdict, and when the tens and nines were added up, it was Barlow that came away on the happy side of the split decision verdict. With the win, the Class of ’23 graduate remains undefeated while showing more patience and growth.
Chepe Mariscal defeats Damon Jackson by unanimous decision (30-25, 30-25, 30-26)
The featherweight tussle between Chepe Mariscal and Damon Jackson was every bit as action-packed and entertaining as anticipated, with “Machine Gun” Mariscal coming away with the dominant unanimous decision win.
Over the opening five minutes, the veteran ‘45ers traded attacks in all phases, neither man getting a demonstrative advantage, while a clash of heads contributed to Mariscal getting a little color. Mariscal grabbed control of the action in the second half of the middle stanza, pepping Jackson with hard shots on the ground as the Fortis MMA man started to fade, using superior energy reserves to out-work him in the third and secure the victory.

Chepe Mariscal Post-Fight Interview | UFC Fight Night: Tybura vs Spivac 2
/
Mariscal continues to be one of the coolest stories of the last couple years, picking up his fourth straight victory since getting called up to the big leagues after a long run as a regional circuit standout. The 31-year-old is as game as they come, and while his weight miss detracts from this effort a little, he continues to take positive steps in the talent-rich featherweight ranks each time out.
Main Event: Serghei Spivac defeats Marcin Tybura by submission (armbar) at 1:44 of Round 1
Serghei Spivac wasted little time drawing level in his heavyweight series with Marcin Tybura, collecting the first-round submission win to close out the evening.
“The Polar Bear” came right at Tybura at the start of the contest, landing a clean shot in the first exchange that allowed him to close the distance and initiate a grappling entanglement. After Tybura reversed to top position and looked to posture up, Spivac quickly latched onto an armbar, rolling the Polish veteran through, extending the arm, and drawing a verbal tap from Tybura.
